The time has come… you’ve thrown away your L plates, collected your Ps and bought yourself the car of your dreams.

Well, maybe not the car of your dreams, but at least a ticket to some freedom and independence.

When you finally get over the novelty of owning your own car, you might start to think about really making it your own.

Personalising your car can be something as simple as new car seats covers to match the paint work. Or you could go all out with a custom paint job, fancy trim and ultra shiny alloy wheels in true LA style.

But there is an easier – and cheaper – way. Or if you’ve invested a heap in making your car look good, there is a way to top it all off.

The RTA offers a wide range of number plate styles to suit pretty much every kind of car, for every kind of driver.

I'll be there soon

There are green, red, purple and blue plates for the more colourful personality, or gold and silver metallic plates for those who want some shine. There are black plates for the classic, understated driver and even European style plates for those with a continental flair.

You can put pretty much anything you want on these plates too (within reason) – just pick the number and letter combination you want at myRTA.com and if it’s available you can buy it straight away. Too easy!

Apart from looking good, you might also end up with an investment. From time to time special collectable number plates are released. Plates in the shape of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and others to celebrate the centenary of the Federation have already been sold. And at a special auction in 2006 one number plate was sold for $120,000.

There are new number plates coming out all the time, so keep an eye out!
